Curieuse Island Rat Eradication Project
Black rat eradication on Curieuse Island National Park
IOTA is spearheading, in partnership with Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority, the Black Rat (Rattus rattus) eradication on Curieuse Island National park. The two year project is funded by Climate Ecosystem Partnership fund (CEPF). The rats will be eradicated using Goodnature A24 self resetting traps set around the island, the device is designed to reset itself and can be used about 24 times before it needs to be reset again.
The project aims to:
Train staff in various methods of data collection for the purpose of eradication.
Install approximately 400 self setting traps around Curieuse island along with bait with the aim
to eradicate black rats.Raise public awareness on the need to restore islands
Build capacity and collaboration in conservation
